Michael Freedman

Michael Freedman, Senior Shopper Insight Manager, IGD

Since joining IGD’s Shopper team in January 2007, Michael has helped retailers and suppliers to develop successful and sustainable business strategies by better understanding shopper attitudes to food and retail related issues. Michael focuses on providing insight about shopper missions, merchandising, multichannel shopping, loyalty, ethical consumerism and health. Michael is an experienced presenter at industry events.

With over 20 years agency and clientside experience in managing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research projects covering emerging trends affecting the food and grocery industry, you can call on Michael’s insight for bespoke research or to add an essential shopper angle to your industry event.

Michael was previously Senior Insight Manager at Which? conducting research to support campaigns for consumers to have access to safe, nutritious, good quality food at affordable prices. He also worked at world leading market research agencies GfK Market Research and Research International. Michael has a BSc (Hons) degree in Management Science from Manchester University and is a member of the Market Research Society.

Becky Hain

Becky Hain, UK Sales – Drinks, Weetabix

Becky started her career at Weetabix and having spent time in other FMCG businesses including McCains and Youngs Seafood she returned back to the business in 2011. Her career in Sales has spanned a number of channels and customers having managed all the major UK retailers, discounters and ROI market before moving to her current role of Head of Sales in the newly formed Drinks Team in July 2015. Her remit now covers the Category, Channel and New Business Development Strategy for Weetabix on the Go breakfast drinks – a role that she describes as her best yet.

John Hoggarth

John Hoggarth, Senior Training Consultant, RADA Enterprises

John is a trained actor and successful director who has worked in the business sector for over 15 years. He has built a strong personal reputation as a facilitator and coach where his intervention has helped clients unlock their potential and discover a more confident approach to successful communication.

John trained at Rose Bruford College and was Joint Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre from 2003 until 2008.

In his corporate work John has worked with a range of organisations including BP Shipping, Allen & Overy LLP, the NHS, Price Waterhouse Coopers, the Home Office, Rolls-Royce, Adidas, Chep and the Olympic Delivery Authority.

Much of his corporate work has been with senior managers developing their skills in personal impact and effective communication, handling crucial conversations, influencing skills, leadership development, constructive feedback, and increasing confidence.

Rosie Joly

Rosie Joly, Head of OOH Sales, Propercorn

Rosie was Propercorn’s 5th employee, joining the business in September 2013 - two months after graduating. Since then, she has been instrumental in growing the business from start-up to international success, witnessing all aspects of the company’s evolution along the way.

Propercorn is now the fastest growing non-tech start-up in the UK, available in 10 countries and selling roughly 3 million packs a month.

After three years working across a breadth of sectors (Convenience, Wholesale, Foodservice, Cash & Carry, High Street & QSR) she now heads up Propercorn’s Out of Home sales channels. Thus far, she has successfully established Propercorn as a must-stock item in the Convenience sector, growing the business from scratch to £2m in the last two years.

Jonathan Miller

Jonathan Miller, Chief Executive, McColl's

Jonathan Miller was appointed Chief Executive in April 2016 after 25 years with McColl’s. He has had a key role in the development of the company, including a secondary management buy-out in 2004, the listing on the stock exchange in 2014 and several significant acquisitions. These have helped to reshape McColl’s into a business of real scale, operating 1,375 stores with a turnover of £950m in 2016.

In line with McColl’s strategy to grow market share and develop the convenience offer, Jonathan was delighted to secure the transformational acquisition of 298 convenience stores from the Co-Op last July. After the integration of these stores, over 80% of the McColl’s estate will be convenience stores, and the business will have truly established itself as a leading neighbourhood convenience retailer.

James Walton

James Walton, Chief Economist, IGD

James’ role at IGD is to help businesses anticipate and cope with the economic, geo-political, social and environmental factors they face. Having joined almost 15 years ago, James has been IGD’s chief economist since 2004. He regularly speaks at International conferences and gives media interviews on the issues and trends affecting the consumer goods industry. James works with clients across the supply chain as well as government departments and NGOs and is available for customised presentations and boardroom briefings.

Darcy Wilson-Rymer

Darcy Willson-Rymer, Chief Executive Officer, Costcutter Supermarkets Group

Darcy joined Costcutter Supermarkets Group as CEO in 2012. Part of Bibby Line Group, Costcutter Supermarkets Group operates the Costcutter, Mace, Kwiksave, Simply Fresh and Supershop brands. 

Prior to joining Costcutter, Darcy was Chief Executive Officer at Clinton Cards having enjoyed a successful four years as Managing Director of Starbucks Coffee Company, UK and Ireland.This followed three years with Unilever Ventures and 19 years with Yum! Brands, where he held several positions including Operations Director for KFC, Great Britain.

Darcy is passionate about service, community and the role that retail and the high street can play in society. He is a Board member of Bibby Financial Services and Stop the Traffik, a charity devoted to ending the buying and selling of people.
