Our charitable impact

Our charitable status comes from our heritage

IGD was formed in 1909 to provide education through information and training in handling products for people who worked in grocery stores.

Now we deliver public benefit as a charity by:

  • Providing information and practical training that enables people working in the industry develop personally and deliver better service to consumers
  • Helping people make informed choices on diet, health and nutrition
  • Driving sustainable improvements for the public by sharing best practice along the supply chain, and helping companies to work together

We, and all registered charities, are regulated by the Charity Commission. We operate in accordance with CC10 The Hallmarks of an Effective Charity and other guidance issued by the Charity Commission to ensure we are efficient and transparent in all that we do.

Our Funding

We generate income through trading activities to provide funds to achieve our goals.

Trading activities are conducted through a subsidiary company, IGD Services Limited, which is owned 100% by IGD.
